Pool chemical safety
How to store, measure and add chlorine, acid and other pool chemicals without risk to you, your children or your pool.

Never mix different products, dry or dissolved. Chlorine and acid together release a toxic gas.
When adding chemicals
- Wear gloves and, if possible, eye protection.
- Keep a spoon and cup just for the pool. Never use kitchen ones.
- Dissolve granules in a bucket of pool water: always the product into the water, never water onto the product.
- One product at a time, with the filter running and a few hours in between.
- Nobody in the pool while you add chemicals.
When storing them
- Out of reach of children and pets, somewhere cool, dry and ventilated.
- Keep chlorine away from acids and cleaning products.
- Always in the original container, tightly closed.
- Don't store them indoors, near heat or in the sun.
If something goes wrong
- Skin or eye contact: rinse with plenty of running water for 15 minutes.
- Breathed in fumes or short of breath: move to fresh air.
- Call 000 (Australia) or the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26, and take the product container with you.
